Don't understand when they are feeling an emotion???
2018-06-11
I am a 116 on the Alexithymia scale. It says this indicates high alexithymic traits. I feel that I must be alexithymic but there is one trait which I don't have which alexithemics are supposed to have. The literature says alexithymics have problems identifying their own emotions. I feel that I have emotions but they are very weak. When I feel them I know what emotion they are.

So what I am asking is this ... Are you alexithymic and do you experience emotions but do not understand them? I have read of somatizing. This is when someone experiences an emotion such as sadness, and does not recognize it as sadness, but as a physical condition such as hunger or a headache.

Alexithymia - emotional blindness - is a personal trait which affects roughly 10% of the population.

Alexithymia describes the difficulty of people to perceive and describe emotions of others and themselves. Most persons concerned are not aware about this deficit and usually they are just recognizing it in contact with others, especially close friends, within their family or their partner.

These pages should deliver additional information about Alexithymia and offer information for affected persons, relatives and generally interested people.
