I gave several Alexithymia test questions to my adult daughter and the following is one of her responses. At first I laughed it off but I think there's more here than I realize. Should I pursue Alexithymia further as a possible cause of her inability to process emotion in others?
"Ann's mother has spent a long day cooking Ann's favorite meal. But when she brings it to Ann, she is watching TV, and doesn't even look up or say thank you. Ann's mother is very cross and says 'well that's very nice, isn't it! That is what I call politeness'.
Questions: Is it true what Ann's mother says? Why does Ann's mother say this?
Daughter's Response: Because she is a terrible mother with poor impulse control.
